The Calling to Entrepreneurship………

go-calling

Before I talk about my epiphany, let’s talk about entrepreneurs!!!

What is an entrepreneur?

I’m glad that you asked. According to Merriam-Webster’s dictionary, the definition of an  entrepreneur is one who organizes, manages, and assumes the risks of a business or enterprise. Let’s break down the “assumes the risks of a business or enterprise” part. (I feel a preach right there!) In this definition “assume” means to accept. There are many risks involved in launching a business. Some of the main risks include:

  • Forfeiting a steady paycheck
  • The loss of money and time
  • Partners quitting on you
  • Failure
  • Family and friends not seeing your big vision

Basically, you’re accepting the reality of possible rewards and/or loss or failure.

Your future is worth the risk…..

Do you realize that we as believers “assume all risks” whenever we step out on faith and trust God to do the impossible?  If you know the story of Peter in the bible, then you know that he “assumed all risks” when he quit his job as a fisherman to become a full-time apostle who would later build the church of Christ. Peter  also “assumed all risks” again we Jesus invited him to step out on the water. Peter and the rest of the disciples were risk-takers! It’s never truly a risk when you’re trusting God because he always come through but it sure does feel like it sometimes.

There are similar “risks” when it comes to trusting God fully when you’re an entrepreneur. You’re leaving a place of comfort, familiarity and safety to a place of uncertainty. There is no guarantee that your business ideas will thrive or that they will bring in profits and income. However, the one thing that pushes an individual to start a business is their authority (i.e. business knowledge, experience, wisdom, skill-set, etc.)  in a field. This authority gives them confidence that their business idea could potentially become something huge and earn great gains. Of course if they put in hard work.

When Jesus sent out the twelve disciples to spread the gospel, he gave them authority to drive out impure spirits and to heal every disease and sickness (Matthew 10:1). He also told them to leave everything and bring nothing with them for the journey. Sounds familiar?

How do I know that I’m called?

Everyday, God would not cease to tug on my heart to go after more.  This was a deep longing in my heart but I wasn’t willing to accept the risk of leaving my comfort zone.  I didn’t know that I had the authority to build and I strongly dealt with fear. After a season of much breaking, I  realized that God was calling me into something greater than myself.  God has invited me to organize, manage and “assume all risks” for something that HE wants to birth through me. Guess what? He’s given me the authority to go where he’s sending me too. #Aaaaayyee

So yes…..I am called to create. I called to build. I am called to be an owner. I am called to be a lender. I am called to entrepreneurship…….Are you?
